Alejandro “alex” Masanet has stepped in to replace Tiago “JUST” Moura on Iberian Soul, a roster that previously played under KOI before being granted the freedom to seek new opportunities at the beginning of the year. The team currently operates without an organizational backing but continues competing under the Iberian Soul banner.
This transition marks a reunion for alex with several familiar faces, as he rejoins former teammates from his lengthy tenure with Movistar Riders. His time with the Spanish squad spanned over five years before he made the jump to Ninjas in Pyjamas in November 2023.
Leading NiP proved to be a challenging endeavor for the Spanish in-game leader. Throughout his ten-month stint, the team struggled to make a significant impact on the international stage, failing to secure a spot at PGL Major Copenhagen and facing numerous setbacks across major events. Their only deep tournament run came at YaLLa Compass 2024, where they reached the grand final. However, inconsistent performances ultimately led to his benching in November to make way for Gareth “MisteM” Ries.
Now returning to his roots, alex reunites with Alejandro “mopoz” Fernández-Quejo Cano, the last remaining player from his previous Movistar Riders lineup. With this reunion, Iberian Soul aims to rebuild momentum and establish themselves as a competitive force once again.
The team is set to compete in CCT Season 2 Europe Series 16, which begins with a Swiss group stage on January 20, followed by ESL Challenger League Season 49 Europe, spanning from January 21 to May 11.
Iberian Soul’s updated roster consists of:
- David “dav1g” Granado Bermudo (Spain)
- Alejandro “mopoz” Fernández-Quejo Cano (Spain)
- Pere “sausol” Solsona Saumell (Spain)
- Renato “stadodo” Gonçalves (Portugal)
- Alejandro “alex” Masanet (Spain)
