German esports organization ALTERNATE aTTaX has revealed plans to exit professional Counter-Strike at the close of 2024 due to a strategic shift within the company. Despite this pause, the organization intends to return to competitive Counter-Strike “in the long run.”

ALTERNATE aTTaX, established in 2003 and entering CS in 2012, has long supported the German Counter-Strike scene, contributing significantly to the grassroots national competition level. Over the years, they secured five ESL Meisterschaft titles and most recently competed in the IEM Cologne 2024 Play-In, though their run was cut short after losses to Complexity and Falcons.

In their statement, ALTERNATE aTTaX cited multiple factors behind their decision to step back, including financial pressures, the current state of the CS2 ecosystem, and an internal strategy overhaul.

Though their main team will disband at the end of the year, the organization confirmed its continued commitment to its academy program. It intends to invest in developing the academy team and aims to return to professional Counter-Strike when circumstances allow.

Lennart Kreuter, ALTERNATE aTTaX’s project manager, emphasized that the decision, though appearing as a retreat, represents an opportunity to rethink their approach and explore new possibilities within the Counter-Strike scene.
