Esports organizers BLAST and PGL have both revealed plans to host Counter-Strike 2 tournaments in 2027, with the events set to take place simultaneously. BLAST Bounty is scheduled from January 13th to 24th, 2027, overlapping with PGL’s yet-unnamed competition, which concludes on January 25th.
Details about the tournaments remain sparse, aside from the conflicting dates. The scheduling aligns with Valve’s new requirement that organizers announce events for 2027 at least two years in advance to maintain stability in the CS2 competitive calendar.
While Valve’s updated guidelines have minimized scheduling conflicts for the 2025 season, the 2027 overlap suggests that teams might need to choose between the two high-profile tournaments.
Both BLAST and PGL have also laid out their plans for 2025 and 2026, with BLAST hosting six CS2 events and PGL organizing four. These tournament organizers are seasoned in delivering top-tier Counter-Strike events, having previously hosted Valve-sanctioned Majors and other prestigious competitions featuring the world’s leading teams.
BLAST’s 2025 season began with the BLAST Bounty on January 13th at its Copenhagen studios in Denmark. Meanwhile, PGL’s first 2025 event is slated for February, where 16 teams will compete for a $1.25 million (~£1.09 million) prize pool at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025. Other notable PGL events this year will take place in Bucharest, Astana, and Belgrade.
The overlapping schedules in 2027 could force teams to decide between the two events. However, this situation might present an opportunity for lower-ranked teams to step into the spotlight and compete on a prominent stage.
