Valve has rolled out an update to the Valve Regional Standings, implementing several significant adjustments related to forfeits, minimum match requirements, club share rewards, and mid-event updates.
One notable update addresses an issue that likely impacted GamerLegion’s chances of securing an invite during IEM Katowice, which had previously gone unrecognized. The changes now include forfeits being treated as regular losses, a shift from the previous approach where forfeits were not counted as official results. This adjustment aims to prevent teams from exploiting the system by forfeiting matches without consequences.
Another key change involves the timing of tournament data. Now, the data will not count until an event concludes, addressing concerns that mid-event updates could cause complications. This change came after it was noted that certain teams, like GamerLegion, were negatively impacted by prize money earnings not being recognized until a team was officially eliminated from a competition, which potentially cost them an invite to BLAST Open Lisbon during IEM Katowice.
Additionally, the required number of matches for a team to be ranked has been reduced to five, down from the previous requirement of 10 matches. Lastly, the ranking system now includes “club share” earnings, which ESL distinguishes from prize money, combining both prize brackets to better reflect a team’s total earnings.
