The developers of CS 2 are consistently refining the game by addressing bugs and incorporating fresh content. A new patch, released between December 18 and 19, unveiled autograph capsules celebrating the champions of the most recent Major tournament, along with several additional tweaks.

The Patch Highlights

This latest update brings various improvements but is not considered a significant overhaul. Among the notable changes are the following:

Team Spirit Autograph Capsules

Valve continues its tradition of commemorating Major tournament victors within the game. The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 concluded, crowning Team Spirit as champions. In honor of their achievement, autograph capsules featuring the team’s players were added to the game. Importantly, half of the proceeds from the sales of these capsules will go directly to the Team Spirit organization.

Enhanced Weapon Inspection Animations

The update introduces improvements to the animation sequences for inspecting weapons, offering a more polished visual experience.

New Console Commands for Warm-Up Item Drops

The patch includes several new server settings to manage item drops during warm-up periods:

  • mp_warmup_items_drop_policy
  • mp_warmup_items_nocost
  • mp_warmup_items_nocount_policy

These commands allow server administrators to fine-tune item drop rules during the warm-up phase. Configurations such as mp_warmup_items_drop_policy 0, mp_warmup_items_nocost 1, and mp_warmup_items_nocount_policy 251 are aimed at custom servers to prevent unnecessary weapon drops during setup.

Service Medal for 2025

Valve also announced the arrival of a new Service Medal, set to be available for players starting January 1, 2025.

Additional Improvements

Alongside these key additions, the patch brings several smaller but meaningful adjustments to the game:

  • Fine-tuned the criteria for labeling attackers as “blinded” in kill notifications.
  • Improved the physics of explosions to ensure weapons scatter more reliably, even when multiple items overlap.
  • Prevented weapons from dropping to the ground during team changes in the warm-up.
  • Introduced a two-second delay for team switching during warm-up.
  • Added support for map guides in the Steam Workshop, allowing downloads and subscriptions.
  • A guide selector was included to load specific guides in practice mode.
  • Made annotation nodes visible on the radar.
  • Implemented a new console tool (workshop_annotation_submit) for publishing guides to the Steam Workshop.
  • Added settings to optimize CPU core usage, enhancing performance and energy efficiency on processors with dynamic cores.
  • Resolved an issue where graphic drivers caused visual corruption of weapons in the inventory.
  • Improved how long custom weapon names are displayed in the interface.
  • Enhanced overall game stability.
  • Addressed shadow rendering problems in workshop tools under low-angle sunlight conditions.
