HEROIC advanced to the grand final of the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 Finals by defeating OG 2-0 in the semi-finals held in Berlin, Germany.
Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski’s team entered the Thunderpick World Championship Finals as the top-ranked squad, having breezed through the online stages by besting Legacy, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and fnatic, thereby securing a spot in the four-team LAN finals.
Currently riding a wave of impressive LAN performances, including a semi-final finish at IEM Rio and a runner-up position at Elisa Masters Espoo, HEROIC are using this event to prepare for the upcoming Perfect World Shanghai Major RMRs in two weeks.
OG, meanwhile, approached Berlin in a transitional phase, with Jakub “M1key” Krausko from UNiTY standing in after Bram “Nexius” Campana was benched in late October. Having missed out on qualification for the Shanghai Major RMRs, OG, led by Maciej “F1KU” Miklas, won’t participate in any further LAN events for the rest of 2024 after their elimination from the Thunderpick World Championship.
The semi-final started with HEROIC’s choice of Dust2, where they managed to take an 8-4 lead on offense, despite a prolonged technical pause disrupting their momentum. Although OG managed to clinch the second pistol round, HEROIC quickly turned things around with a force-buy, taking control of the game. Led by Guy “NertZ” Iluz with an exceptional 2.37 rating, HEROIC stifled OG’s comeback attempts, closing Dust2 with a 13-8 win.
On Ancient, OG started strong, establishing a 5-2 lead before HEROIC evened the score to 6-6 by halftime. Despite HEROIC converting the second pistol round, OG kept the pressure on, especially on defense, until HEROIC ultimately closed out the map 13-11, securing a 2-0 series victory.
